Walter Maynard Obituary

Cortland - Walter Maynard, known to all as Uncle Walt, a beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away on March 21,2024.

He was born on November 25, 1958, in Trenton, New Jersey. Walt leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of laughter that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him.

Walt was a jovial soul with a deep, booming laugh that could light up any room. His infectious laughter stood out in a crowd, bringing joy to all who were lucky enough to share in his company. He had a knack for finding humor in life's moments and could spin a tale that left everyone in stitches. His quick wit and mischievous charm made him the life of every gathering. In addition to his love for laughter, Uncle Walter enjoyed the simple pleasures of daily walks and the companionship of his two beloved cats, whom he adored like children.

Renowned for his ingenuity and resourcefulness, Walt was a true master of improvisation. With just a bit of duct tape and a heap of imagination, he could fix just about anything. His talent for MacGyvering solutions to everyday problems was legendary among family and friends. There wasn't a challenge Walt couldn't tackle or a problem he couldn't solve.

As the quintessential "funny uncle," Walt's antics and escapades were the stuff of legend. While many of his stories may be deemed too risqué for polite company, they brought endless laughter to those who shared in his adventures. His boundless love and larger-than-life personality endeared him to all who knew him.

Walt is survived by his beloved mother, Doris Maynard, and his adoring sisters: Peggy McKee (Mike), Cindy Matthews (Donald), and Elizabeth Machanska (Joseph). He also leaves behind his cherished nieces and nephews: Kristina, Shelly, Jessica, Joseph, and Jennifer, whom he adored beyond measure. "Uncle Waltie" also had a special bond with his great nephews: Bryan Stone and Paul Lopez.

His family moved to Cortland in 1963 when Walt was a young boy. Walt graduated from Lakeview High School and went on to become a talented tow motor operator. His dedication and hard work were evident in everything he did.

In honoring Walt’s memory, let us celebrate the laughter, the joy, and the love he brought into our lives. Though he may no longer be with us in person, his spirit will live on in the countless fond memories and stories we share. Walt was one of a kind, and we wouldn't have had him any other way.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you share your favorite Uncle Walt stories, keeping alive the laughter and joy he brought into the world. Rest in peace, dear Uncle Walt. You were dearly loved, and you will be deeply missed.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
